Taking on the challenge of bringing together a remarkable group of talented Oxford students to ensure we deliver on our ability to excel, is something I’ve really come to enjoy as Team Leader. The learning opportunities on offer make the Formula Student competition an incredible place for students of all backgrounds to work together and receive skills that they can take with them beyond uni.

I joined OUR to learn more about the inner workings of electric cars and to apply myself to a complex project outside of my degree. Not only did I manage to gain this knowledge and hands-on experience, but I also met so many intelligent and interesting people without which building Oxford’s Formula Student car wouldn’t be possible!

OUR is great because it allows so many brilliant Oxford students to come and apply what they’ve learned to something that’s tangible and part of the real world. The thrill of competition is a big part of why I chose to do OUR, but so is the chance to work together with my colleagues in a friendly and inspiring environment where everyone is comfortable to try their best.

I chose to join OUR’s operational side because I love taking the technical aspects of our electric race car and presenting them in an accessible and engaging way to the wider community. Working with talented students at Oxford from a variety of disciplines, whether it be Engineering or Economics, brings a diverse set of skills to the table and I love seeing how we can integrate so well to bring out the best in each other.

I enjoy being a team member of Oxford University Racing because it provides a set of unique challenges that enable me to develop my skills alongside a fantastic group of people. At the same time, I am able to follow my passion for motorsport without necessarily having a technical background, which provides great opportunities for all students to come and gain practical skills that will be useful in later life.

The practical design and building experience as well as the teamwork skills I gained through OUR will be valuable whatever career path I choose in the future. Being able to work on a big project with like-minded students at Oxford who share my passion for motorsport is fantastic!

Being a part of the Electronics and Software Team has led to me having designed, built and tested various circuit boards and learn the intricacies of electric race cars. OUR is a fantastic place to gain essential electronic engineering skills and apply what you have learned to the real world. Working in a friendly, motivated team as part of the University of Oxford is really fun!

I lead the Chassis Team, which has taught me a lot about the value of making iterative improvements, and has allowed me to work with a team of talented students. I find participating in Formula Student as part of the University of Oxford immensely rewarding and have gained so many amazing practical skills.
