IMechE Formula Student 2022

A look back at Oxford University Racing’s participation in the 2022 FS competition at Silverstone from 6th-10th July.

Our team continued their hard work right up until the final minutes of the event on Sunday, having achieved the majority of requirements with only a handful of minor issues outstanding, which is unprecedented for a first time car!

The Oxford University Racing team brought our first ever FS car over to Silverstone on Wednesday 6th July, joining many other FS teams from around the world! Throughout the event, we had all hands on deck to make the final adjustments on our electric race car. Of course, we took a quick break here and there to celebrate our successes along the way – including being one of the first teams of the week to pass the Accumulator Scrutineering and placing 13th out of over 80 teams for the Business Plan Presentation!

A huge thank you to our sponsors for contributing towards the University of Oxford’s electric race car and for your continuing support. Our team would like to say a special thank you to Tom Merritt-Webster (Team Leader 2021-2022), and Ryan Walker (Faculty Advisor) for their guidance, support and unwavering confidence in our team at every step of the way!

We are grateful to have met so many other FS teams, our sponsors, members of the motorsport industry and racing enthusiasts. For us, this has not only been a valuable opportunity to learn from these events and interactions but also, having surpassed expectations for a first-time car, an excellent jumping-off point for our team to start working on next year’s design with first-hand experience of the scrutineering process.
